Daniel Locher

Daniel Locher was born on May 8, 1985 in Brig VS.

At the age of 6, he learned traditional Swiss drumming from his father, Werner. At a young age, he began participating in drumming contests and achieved more than 30 wins in this field during his early years.

In 1995, Daniel started drum lessons at the General Music School Oberwallis (AMO). This would lead him to the Cantonal Conservatory in Sion. After Daniel completed the federal military training school as a military drummer in 2005, he began his studies at the University of the Arts in Bern. Guided by mentors Harald Glamsch, Hans-Jürg Wahlich, and Christian Hartmann, Daniel evolved into a wellrounded drummer, ultimately earning his Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy with distinction in 2010. In 2016, Daniel started training to be a conductor for wind and

brass music with the lecturer Tobias Salzgeber, which he successfully finished in the spring of 2019.

He currently teaches drums and percussion at the General Music School Oberwallis (AMO). He conducts the former Swiss champion drum corps ‘Edelweiss Erschmatt’, as well as the brass bands ‘Sonnenberg Törbel’ and ‘Viktoria Turtmann’. Daniel is also a member of the drum corps ‘Schlaganfall’, and plays in various music groups from the Oberwallis.

On a personal note, Daniel married Maricela in 2013. They live in Erschmatt with their two daughters, Lynn and Liv.
